There seems to be numerous theories as to why Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have decided to end their seven-year marriage, but sources say one thing is for sure: Lopez is heartbroken over the split.
"She is devastated," an insider told UsMagazine.com. "Absolutely beside herself. This is someone she dedicated a long time to, and that she truly loved."
Those close to Lopez, 41, and Anthony, 42, say that Jen "tried everything she could to make it work. They went to marriage counseling. She was patient and loving and did everything he wanted her to. She exhausted all the possibilities."
Their romance was tumultuous from the start, as the couple dated in the '90s, before moving on to other relationships. They eventually reconnected and tied the knot in 2004, but sources say they quickly fell back into the same old habits.
"They had a very up and down marriage," another source said. "They would get into heated, horrible fights. Then, they would also go through times where they were extremely loving and romantic...It was a roller coaster with them from the beginning."
In addition to dealing with divorce, Lopez (who's mom to 3-year-old twins Max and Emme) will have to adjust to life as a single mom. But with a slew of new projects on the horizon -- plus her gig at American Idol -- Lopez is trying to put her broken heart behind her.
"She is looking forward to the future," a pal said. "She is jumping back into work and being a mom with all her energy and she is really excited. She feels like she has grown leaps and bounds and is a new person now, better than ever!"
