Michael Jackson's Family Upset With James Durbin Over 'American Idol' Pepsi Quip

'We were shocked to see this,' read the Jacksons' message; Durbin tweeted an apology on Thursday.
By Gil Kaufman

Some people might argue that it's patently unfair to take rank amateurs, put them on the biggest show on TV and then expose them to potential worldwide ridicule every week. Because it's one thing to tune in to "American Idol" from your living room or play shows at the local wings joint, it's another thing entirely when you get up on that stage and open your mouth with tens of millions watching and listening.

James Durbin learned this lesson the hard way this week when he made what he thought was an innocent crack about not setting himself on fire during his pyro-tastic cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" on Wednesday night.

Asked by host Ryan Seacrest if he was worried about dancing around among the flames shooting up from the piano onstage, Durbin joked, "I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it from jumping around — so much so, the one thing I was worried about was having a 'Pepsi moment.' "

The seemingly innocent crack was a reference to the 1984 on-set accident in which late pop icon Michael Jackson was badly burned during the shooting of a Pepsi commercial by some wayward pyro effects. The serious burns he suffered in the incident allegedly led to his longtime addiction to pain medication and prescription drugs.

The Jackson family was not amused by the quip and sent a statement to TMZ on Thursday.

"We were shocked to see this. It's nothing to make light of and everybody should be focusing on who was responsible for Michael's death," read the statement. Family patriarch Joseph Jackson also was reportedly miffed that "Idol" producers did not cut the comment from the West Coast feed of the show.

Durbin defended his slip-up in a tweet, which has since been scrubbed from the singer's official "Idol" Twitter feed, that explained, "For anyone talkin ... I said pepsi NOT MJ! I have no disrespect for Michael. I grew up singing his art. I guess youll take it how you want it." He later added, "Talkin about MJs passing is too soon. Making a reference to an incident 25 years ago..not too soon. The stab was at pepsi people."

It's worth noting that Pepsi's bitter rival, Coca-Cola, is the main "Idol" sponsor, a fact that Seacrest reminded Durbin of in an awkward moment after the comment on the show.

What did you think of James Durbin's "Pepsi" quip? Tell us in the comments.

Corbin Bleu and Nicole Scherzinger to Cohost 'X-Factor'?

Corbin Bleu and Nicole Scherzinger to Cohost 'X-Factor'?

What's the latest casting news out of Simon Cowell's new singing competition, The X Factor? The show's cohosts are close to being locked in.

If Entertainment Weekly's sources are correct, then the hosting gig will be shared by Pussycat Dolls singer (and Dancing with the Stars winner) Nicole Scherzinger and High School Musical star Corbin Bleu. (If your age doesn't have a 'teen' on the end of it, you might be more likely to recognize Bleu from his guest appearance on The Good Wife, playing Alicia's DJ client last fall.)

Bleu and Scherzinger have yet to fully commit to the show, but both are said to be close to signing deals. And why wouldn't they? Everything Cowell touches turns to gold; with his erstwhile Idol costar Paula Abdul rumored to be joining him on the X Factor judging panel and a role of some sort lineu p for Mariah Carey, this series has H-I-T written all over it.

"The idea is to have a guy and a girl hosting the show, because funny enough I like working on shows with two hosts," Cowell told TV Guide last month.? "I want (Scherzinger) to do it, but we've got to get the deal done and find someone she has chemistry with."

"(Cowell's) got his heart set on giving Nicole a job," reports the British tabloid The Sun. "So he's been looking at a feisty male sidekick, and Corbin fits the bill."

Well, feisty is good! Steven Tyler's already proven that on American Idol.

Beyonce No Longer Managed By Father, Mathew Knowles

'I've only parted ways with my father on a business level,' singer says.
By Gil Kaufman

Artists cut ties with managers all the time. But when your shot-caller is your dad and he's helped you climb the ladder of fame to the very top, things can be a bit trickier.

After years of rumors, Beyoncé confirmed on Monday that she is parting ways with the man who helped make her an international pop diva: dad Mathew Knowles. According to CNN, the split was amicable and both sides said it was a mutual decision. "I've only parted ways with my father on a business level," Beyoncé, 29, said in a statement released on Monday. "He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me ... I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hardworking entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps."

Mathew Knowles began managing Beyoncé's career when she was a teenager and shepherded her through her mega-success with Destiny's Child in the late 1990s and into her even bigger career as a solo artist, which has garnered her 16 Grammy Awards and millions in sales for her three post-DC albums. Her mother, Tina, is Beyoncé's stylist and is heavily involved in their clothing line, House of Dereon.

"The decision for Beyoncé and Music World Entertainment to part was mutual," Mathew Knowles said in a separate statement also released on Monday. "We did great things together, and I know that she will continue to conquer new territories in music and entertainment."

It was not announced who would take over management duties for Beyoncé, but Knowles said his record label would instead focus on gospel and inspirational artists. "Business is business and family is family," Knowles continued. "I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success."

Among the artists who are listed on the Music World Entertainment site are Juanita Bynum, From Above, Pastor Rudy, the Bamaz, Beyoncé's younger sister, Solange, and Trin-I-Tee 5:7. Knowles also used to manage former Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, but they parted ways with him, respectively, in 2009 and 2010.

Mathew and Tina Knowles divorced in 2009 after 29 years of marriage. Beyoncé is reportedly close to finishing work on the follow-up to 2008's I Am ... Sasha Fierce, which could include contributions from Sia and Sleigh Bells, along with Ne-Yo, S1, Jim Jonsin, Sean "The Pen" Garrett, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart.

Justin Bieber Calls Israel Concert 'Amazing Night'

'Never going to forget this one,' singer tweets after Tel Aviv show.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Jack Guez/ AFP

It's been a trying week for Justin Bieber. After criticizing the paparazzi in Israel on his Twitter account, he then vowed to take a break from tweeting so that he could vacation with his family before his performance there on Thursday. Let's not forget he had to cancel his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well.

But on Thursday Bieber finally hit the stage without a hitch. "Well hello there," he tweeted before he took the stage at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park. "Time to do what i love best ... perform for the fans. Israel ... its almost time. #myworldtour."

According to a concert review in The Hollywood Reporter, Bieber took the stage at 8:00 p.m. to play to an estimated 35,000 fans. While most of the show sounded like standard Bieber fare, at one point Bieber's music director, Dan Kanter, played the country's national anthem, "Hatikva." Bieber then played his inspirational track "Pray," and even paid homage to manager Scooter Braun's grandmother, a Holocaust survivor who was in the audience.

"It was perhaps the one awkward moment in the show, if only because the next line he uttered enthusiastically was, 'Who wants to be my 'Baby?!' " the writer noted in her review.

After his show, he seemed as happy about the performance as his fans. "AMAZING NIGHT ... AMAZING PLACE ... AMAZING SHOW!!" he tweeted. "NEVER GOING TO FORGET THIS ONE. #BLESSED"

Next up Bieber takes his act to the Singapore Indoor Stadium. He has shows booked abroad through May.

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Dominic Cooper Talks Playing Saddam's Son In 'Devil's Double'

Actor opens up to MTV News about dual roles as murderous Uday Hussein and his hapless body double, in our Summer Movie Preview.
By Josh Wigler

Dominic Cooper in "Devil's Double"

The reign of Saddam Hussein is mostly in the collective rearview mirror, but for Dominic Cooper it's still very much in the present.

Cooper stars in this summer's "The Devil's Double," the Lee Tamahori-directed historical gangster flick that tells the story of Saddam's murderous son Uday and his reluctant body double, Latif Yahia. Appropriately enough, Cooper's pulls double-duty as both Uday and Latif, delivering a two-pronged performance that swings between psychotic mania and indescribable tragedy. And as moviegoers will no doubt observe in the just-released trailer, getting into those two divergent headspaces could not have been an easy task.

With "The Devil's Double" arriving in theaters on July 29, now's the perfect time to get the inside track on what's sure to be one of the can't-miss movie affairs of the summer. To that end, MTV News spoke with Cooper about playing Uday and Latif as part of our continuing Summer Movie Preview.

MTV: What drew you to "The Devil's Double"? Was it the opportunity to tap into these two different roles? The chance to explore this fairly recent period of history?

Dominic Cooper: Yeah, you know, it is such an interesting period of time. It seems so apparent to us, so much to do with our recent history, really, that area with regards to the war and that regime. But I didn't know enough. To sort of get inside of it and to see what this was all about and the world in which [the Husseins] existed, for me, was really intriguing. I wanted to know more.

And the opportunity to work with [director Lee Tamahori] — once I met him, I was blown away by his energy and his vision of what the piece should be. It wasn't meant to be an accurate historical reference to those people and that period of time; it was very clouded, what the actual truth is. But he saw this incredible dynamic between an evil man and a poor guy who was thrown into a situation he couldn't get out of. That dynamic and that conflict, he found so riveting, as did I.

MTV: Just judging by the trailer, this doesn't seem like an easy project to take on.

Cooper: It wasn't. It was chaos filming it; there wasn't much time to do it, and with the technology of having to double me up and the speed with which that had to be done and the change of character I had to do in a matter of moments ... it wasn't easy.

But I remember thinking, 'This is very special for me. No matter what people think of it and no matter who sees it and no matter how it turns out, these parts come along rarely.' I just absorbed every moment of it really and enjoyed playing out being a kid — because Uday was basically a child gone wrong, but one who had access to everything with no one stopping him. I was running around with golden guns and Ferraris ... it was an odd experience! Playing out this gangster role, knowing that this man did ruin and destroy people's lives and families without any remorse or forward thinking. He was just all-out evil, Uday was. It was very complicated, playing a character that you have no empathy for.

MTV: So were you ever able to get yourself to that point, a place where you could empathize with a man like Uday?

Cooper: No, not really. [Laughs.] The wonderful thing was having Latif to play as a sympathetic character. After being this monster for days in and days out, it was nice to play something genuine and heartfelt and sort of emotionally raw rather than this savage person. I suppose in terms of strength and understanding, on some level, I had to comprehend what it must have been like for [Uday] as a child, growing up in that regime and having Saddam as a father, not being acknowledged by his father. I don't think he trusted him to take his position, to run a country, with military decisions. All of those things, if you think about them, it's why he killed his father's best friends. He was desperate for attention. He was never given enough. That was a way in for me, to try and comprehend the monstrosities that he took part in.

MTV: From a technical standpoint, how did you do this? What was the process of playing these two characters?

Cooper: Technically, some of the scenes where both of us were in the shot, we'd have a motion-controlled camera. I'd film a scene dressed as and behaving as Uday, and it would replicate the move exactly so you could double the screen up and put it over the top. I would have to guess or work out where I was standing for the other character, which was sometimes very difficult, because Uday takes up a lot of space; he's very manic, he moves around a lot, and we'd have to try and pinpoint where the eye-lines would be. It's quite complicated, really. I was basically acting to nothing, remembering the performance I was doing as that person. It wasn't easy, but again, it was so creative and in the moment because on-the-spot decisions were being made. I think a lot of the time, instead of too much thinking, you kind of go with your instincts and our wonderful cameraman's instincts, and I think it turned out better for it.

MTV: "Devil's Double" hits theaters in July, right in the midst of a very crowded summer-movie season filled with superheroes, robots and what have you. For you, what makes "Devil's Double" stand out in a sea of blockbusters?

Cooper: Well, I think it's the fact that this is not a blockbuster, in a way. [Laughs.] They're visually stunning, those films, but ultimately it depends on whether you want complete escapism — to believe that there are green monsters coming down from Mars and superheroes are flying around the sky, which is wonderful and exciting — or whether you want some sort of reality-based reference to a man who actually existed.

I think Latif's story is exhilarating. How could anyone have ever lived through that? It's so far from where we are, seeing how Baghdad functioned, this lavish and overwhelming lifestyle that these people led. There's a true horror of what went on within it. But at the same time, Lee's made it action-packed and fast moving and sexy in a way. It has all of those elements. It's a gangster film rather than a historical documentation. You're just amazed that anybody ever went through this.

Check out everything we've got on "The Devil's Double."

Ke$ha Postpones Japan Tour Dates

Ne-Yo, Cyndi Lauper continue to perform in the country following earthquake.
By Gil Kaufman

As the people of Japan continue to struggle with recovering from the nation's devastating earthquake and tsunami, some artists are being forced to cancel their tour dates in the nation. Ke$ha released a statement on Monday announcing that she would have to postpone her upcoming dates in Japan.

"My heart is with Japan right now through this disaster and these hardships," the singer wrote on her website. "I genuinely don't think right now would be appropriate timing for me to perform in Japan given the content and the spirit of my show, which is all about feeling exuberant, rowdy, and wild. ... I plan to bring my party there and to that part of the world when we are all ready to dance and Get $leazy together again. In the meantime I am going to do everything I can to help relief efforts and I encourage everyone in the world to do the same."

In the meantime, Ke$ha has a string of North American dates kicking off on April 1 with a show in Clarion, Pennsylvania, and running through early May.

According to Billboard, the promoter of the scotched Japanese tour, Creativeman Productions, also announced that it would be canceling a pair of its annual spring festivals. The Springgroove, an R&B, soul and hip-hop festival scheduled for April 2 near Tokyo and April 3 in Osaka, would have featured Nelly and Flo Rida, among others. Also called off was then annual hardcore Punkspring festival on April 1 and 2 in Osaka and Nagoya with headliners Good Charlotte and Hoobastank.

Ne-Yo continued with his planned dates in Japan over the weekend, performing a show in Nagoya on Friday and launching a charity initiative to help the people of the country. Called "Spread Love Through Music," the show included donation boxes at the concert to help those in need and the sale of a special wristband with proceeds going to earthquake relief. He plans to do the same during his shows on Tuesday (March 22) in Yokohama and Thursday in Tokyo. "You can absolutely spread love through music, and I think that's what's absolutely called for in this time of crisis," he said in a video on his website.

Also currently touring Japan is Cyndi Lauper, who is slated to play a show in Osaka on Tuesday and was in the country promoting her Memphis Blues album when the quake hit on March 11. She's been tweeting about her experience all along, and on Monday, she wrote about the healing power of music in the shattered country.

"Miss my family but have my music family and the warmth of the peeps I sing to. Tonight I will lose myself in the music and the rhythm," she wrote. Like Ne-Yo, she is asking fans to donate cash at the shows to earthquake relief and is donating all royalties from sales of her Blues album in Japan to the Japanese Red Cross.

'American Idol' Preview: How Will Scotty McCreery Do On Carole King Night?

King's lesser-known catalog presents a challenge for the top six.
By Eric Ditzian

Scotty McCreery performs on "American Idol" on Wednesday
Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Fox

So much for contemporary tuneage! A week after "American Idol" embraced songs from the 21st century, the show is headed back into the familiarity of the previous millennium with the songbook of Carole King.

It's a rather odd choice at this point in the competition, as much fun as it would be to see James Durbin attempt to pull off a heavy-metal take on "It's Too Late." It's not just that King's songs will be an uneasy fit for many of the singers, but that her songbook doesn't contain near the number of recognizable tunes that even Elton John's does (and just you forget about Lennon/McCartney). Considering the top six will also be singing duets of King's work (hey, producers have got to find some way of filling up 90 minutes of air time), it's going to be a challenge for them to find recognizable solo performances that connect with home viewers. Perhaps more so than at any point this season, the arrangements of Jimmy Iovine's producers are going to be of the utmost importance.

Here's what we'll be looking for from the kids headed into Wednesday's show:

Casey Abrams
What to make of Casey? He's defied the odds for weeks, avoiding the bottom three after being saved by the judges last month. With his quirky performances and his goofy personality, the 20-year-old seems to have solidified a dedicated fanbase who will vote for him on good nights (Elton's "Your Song") and bad (Maroon 5's "Harder to Breathe"). King's oeuvre is certainly a better fit for Casey than other "Idol" hopefuls, and we can see him succeeding — along with his bass — with "Wasn't Born to Follow" (made famous by the Byrds in "Easy Rider").

Haley Reinhart
We'd say Haley can choose no other song than "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," but Lauren Alaina already beat her to it (on rock and roll night, strangely enough). It's too bad, since the tune would have provided the perfect, soulful platform on which she can build on last week's rousing rendition of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." Whatever song she picks, here's the problem: Haley just doesn't have the fanbase to survive much longer. She killed it last week and still ended up in the bottom three. Her comeback, it seems, will be remembered as too little too late. We just hope she shows off enough bluesy sass to make record execs take notice. Don't let this girl disappear!

Jacob Lusk
America should have its fingers and toes crossed that Jacob ignores Randy Jackson's advice from last week to ditch his recent, restrained performances and let loose like a wild man. An unbound Jacob is a Jacob we simply don't dig. A tune like "It's Too Late" could hit his emotional sweet spot. No matter the song choice, Wednesday's performance could be a make-or-break one for the guy. He's been a regular member of the bottom-three crew, and he'll have to come out strong if he wants to pick up some of Stefano Langone's voters.

James Durbin
While it's putting it mildly to say James didn't bust out his finest vocals of the season last week during his Muse cover, we gave the thumbs-up to the performance because it was metal enough to satisfy James' instincts yet still allowed him room to stretch his vocal cords (even if it didn't sound so great when he did). King's songbook presents James with the biggest challenge of any of the remaining six. He might take a bite out of a King-penned Monkees' tune, but a savvier choice would be the Animals' "Don't Bring Me Down" and its darkly infectious choral refrain.

Lauren Alaina
Was last week a wakeup call for Lauren? Will she be able to shake off the nerves that have plagued her for too long and return to the freewheeling performance style she displayed early on this season? If that happens, and she continues to present country-rock music, Lauren is practically assured of ending up in the final three. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," lyrically, just feels like a country song — all it needs is a little twangy update from Lauren.

Scotty McCreery
As we predicted last week, Scotty's likely in for a back-from-the-brink performance, not because he bombed last week, but because the judges decided to slam him for no apparent reason other than that resurrection narratives make good TV. Truth is, the 17-year-old remains the "Idol" front-runner. Heck, he could sing "Old Smokey Locomotion" and the voters would come on in droves for him. But that'd just be absurd. If he wants to switch things up a bit and bring a rock vibe to his country-strong performance, "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood, Sweat & Tears would be a fine choice.

Don't miss "Idol Party Live" every Thursday at noon on MTV.com for analysis, celebrity guests and even some karaoke — get in the conversation by tweeting with the hashtag #idolparty! In the meantime, get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Chris Evans 'Can't Believe' He Almost Passed On 'Captain America'

'Captain America just changes things and there's no 'off' switch,' he tells MTV News about playing Marvel war hero.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Last year, in the run-up to casting the lead role in "Captain America: The First Avenger," actors rumored to be competing to play the Captain included Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy"), Wilson Bethel ("Generation Kill"), John Krasinski ("The Office"), Mike Vogel ("Cloverfield") and Chris Evans.

The part eventually went to Evans, despite serious trepidations he had about jumping into another superhero franchise following his turn as the Human Torch in two "Fantastic Four" films.

"I look back now and I can't believe I almost didn't do it," Evans told MTV News recently. "I can't believe I almost didn't do it! For better or worse, no matter what happens with the film, whether it's a good film or not, it was the right thing to do and I'm glad I did it."

And he's still doing it. Over the weekend, Evans was on location in Times Square putting the finishing touches on the production ahead of the flick's July 22 release date. As part of our ongoing Summer Movie Preview Week, we're debuting an exclusive photo of Evans in character as the World War II-era hero and we sat down for a chat with the star to discuss his thoughts about the Marvel film.

"I was pretty nervous. I remember the first time I went to a fitting and I put on the suit and I just was so terrified, so focused on the negatives, still," he said. "I'm not quite sure when it turned. I bet when I was at that Comic-Con [in August], I was probably still terrified, probably still apprehensive about whether or not this was right."

Indeed he was. Back at the Con in San Diego, he said of taking on the project, "It wasn't an easy 'yes.' I get nervous in things like this and Captain America just means a lot of this. I was in a really happy place in my life; kind of in a happy medium place in my career, and Captain America just changes things and there's no 'off' switch once you walk down that road."

Now, though, the production is nearly complete and the 29-year-old actor couldn't be happier with what he's seen of the Joe Johnston-directed movie. "I've seen quite a bit, but I haven't seen a full cut," Evans said. "Everything I've seen, I really like. I don't like jinxing things because I've made some films in the past that I've seen bits and pieces of that I liked and then you see the full film and get the full experience and the full pace and the journey and it might not be the same thing. Individual scenes in a vacuum can be misleading. I will say this: Every single individual scene that I've seen I've loved."

Exciting News

I have all but abandoned this blog and, for that, I am sorry. I am, however, going to get back to it because... wait for it, wait for it... I'm moving to LA for six months starting in June and I'm going to share every dirty detail with you!

You see, Mark and my good friend Patty are executive producers of a new television show that will be taping in New York from June to November. Instead of him getting his own apartment here, we thought it would be more fun to trade places. It's going to be like The Holiday and I get to be Kate Winslet. I'M GOING TO HAVE A CAR AND EVERYTHING. (Watch. Out.)

I'm looking forward to a change of scenery and have other friends out there besides him. Also, the movie is being released at the end of September, so it will be fun to be out there for that.

So anyway, that's what I've been up to—planning all this and getting ready for my (temporary) move. Stay tuned!

Nicki Minaj, Adam Lambert Take Early O Music Awards

Favorite Animated GIF prize goes to Nicki Minaj, while Lambert wins Favorite F--- Yeah Tumblr
By Gil Kaufman

You were warned that the inaugural O Music Awards would not be the usual tuxedos and big-up-to-the-man-upstairs schmooze fest. We proved it when the first award was handed out on Monday night following a spirit debate that resulted in Andy Grammer's choose-your-own-adventure video for "Keep Your Head Up" winning the Most Innovative Video award.

Though the official awards show doesn't take place until Thursday night in Las Vegas, more magical cubes were handed out on Monday and Tuesday, including the NSFW-named Favorite F--- Yeah Tumblr trophy.

In a tight race, the F--- Yeah Adam Lambert Tumblr won, beating out a bevy of big-name competitors, including Trey Songz, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kid Cudi, Kayne West, Janelle Monae, Harajuku Barbie (a.k.a. Nicki Minaj), "Crazy Britney" and Beyoncé.

Though all the sites feature stellar candid and posed pictures of the stars, video clips and homebrewed collages, it was the Tumblr dedicated to glam-pop king Adam Lambert that took the crown. Packed with glamour shots and lots of quirky animated GIFs, the site offers nearly 300 pages of all things Adam, showing the fierce dedication of the Glam Nation.

The Favorite Animated GIF award was revealed by none other than MTV TJ Gabi Gregg. "I'm online 24-hours a day, pretty much, or it feels like that," said Gregg in a video announcing the prize. "I was super exited to see that this category even existed. I love GIFs. I retweet them, I reblog them, I Facebook them." And without further ado, she said the clear cube would go to ... Nicki Minaj "Gum Twirl."

The frantic GIF of a pop-eyed Nicki furiously spinning some pink gum around her finger won over some seriously fierce competition, including such nominees as the "50 Cent, Bert and Kermit" mash-up, the "50 Cent, Rebecca Black and Bert" mash-up called "Which Seat Can I Take," the infamous Justin Bieber "Tongue Roll," not to mention the Jeckyll-and-Hyde-like Kanye West clip "Kanye Smile, Then Angry" (taken from an MTV News interview), the highlights of the Katy Perry " 'California Gurls' Whipped Cream" scene, the seductive Lady Gaga "Finger Lickin' Good" clip as well as the fake Rihanna/Katy Perry "Catfight" and the hilarious Whitney Houston "Whitney Points" segment from the "Oprah Winfrey Show."

"I know the Barbs and Nicki are very happy, so congratulations to all of you who voted," Gabi said.

Stay tuned all this week for more award announcements.

The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

Justin Bieber In Talks To Co-Star In Ashton Kutcher Buddy Flick

Bieber would reportedly play younger version of Kutcher in 'What Would Kenny Do?'
By Gil Kaufman

Justin Bieber has already notched the third-highest-grossing documentary of all time with "Never Say Never," but now the teen titan is looking at branching out into scripted moves as well.

After his well-received turns on "CSI," the Los Angeles Times reports that Bieber is close to signing on to take the lead role in the buddy comedy "What Would Kenny Do?" opposite Ashton Kutcher. An anonymous source who was briefed on the project told the paper that the film delves into the relationship between a 17-year-old and his 30-something self, with the latter to be played by Kutcher, 33.

The movie, to be produced by Kutcher's Katalyst Entertainment and Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, will probably not get moving until next year because Bieber has touring commitments booked through 2012. Though the initial report said Bieber was "eyeing" the movie, an update posted late Wednesday clarified that the project has been under development for months "with Bieber both in mind and on board."

It wouldn't be the first time the dynamic duo has tried to hook up, coming on the heels of a reported meeting in January in which Kutcher discussed Bieber hosting a rebooted version of "Punk'd."

The "Kenny" script was originally described as an R-rated comedy about "a teenager who meets a hologram claiming to be the adult version of himself; the hologram then helps guide the teen through high school." It got a more PG-13 revision from "(500) Days of Summer" writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, who had Kutcher's successful character going back in time to help the awkward present-day Bieber.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash "I Gotta Feeling," descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in "Tron"-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of "Boom Boom Pow" dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N' Roses rose from below the stage for a "Sweet Child O' Mine" duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into "Pump It" and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas' second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint "OMG." Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his "OMG" video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective's breakout 2003 hit "Where Is the Love?" as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word "Love" in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, "Obama, let's get these educated."

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010's "The Time (Dirty Bit)," as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling," as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, "Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I'm not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey."

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. "That was so freakin sick," he wrote. "Wow...!!!"

What did you think of the Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl performance? Let us know in the comments!

Orlando Bloom Says It's A Good 'Bet' He'll Be In 'The Hobbit'

'I would love to go back to work with Peter Jackson,' the 'Lord of the Rings' alum tells MTV News.

With a movie as big and highly anticipated as Peter Jackson's two-picture take on "The Hobbit," virtually every word uttered about the project in public is newsworthy in some shape or form. It has been an exciting couple of months for the Jackson and Tolkien-obsessed, with production finally in full swing, the announcement of additional cast members and updates from Jackson sent directly to fans via his Facebook page and video blogs.

On Monday (April 25), we learned of the possibility of yet another new cast member, one Orlando Bloom, who you may know from his time spent in a long, white-blonde wig and pointy ears as Legolas in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

When MTV News caught up with Bloom as he did press for his upcoming film "Sympathy for Delicious," we asked if we could bet on him joining his "LOTR" castmates Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett in the production.

"I'm going to bet on it," he said. "But I can't really talk too much about it because it's still sort of in the ether. But I would love to go back to work with Peter Jackson. It would be an honor."

When asked if he's ready to get back into that famous wig and those prosthetic ears, Bloom said he's happy to put on anything and everything Jackson requires. "I'll do anything for him," he told us.

And what about that script? Is Bloom one of the privileged few who've read it?

"It's wonderful," he said with a knowing smile.

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV Release Date Pushed Back To June 21

Wayne needs time to put finishing touches on the album, Young Money president Mack Maine tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Lil Wayne
Photo: MTV News

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV is the most anticipated rap album of 2011 thus far, but fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to hear it. The release date has been pushed back from May 16 to June 21 to allow Wayne to add finishing touches on the LP, according to Young Money president Mack Maine.

"He's still perfecting a few things, he's a perfectionist ... changing a few lines," Mack Maine said of Wayne's recording process. "We also have a huge record that wasn't done yet. We're in L.A. right now. We have a little studio time and it should be done probably by Monday."

Just as Tha Carter III had an all-star lineup — featuring the likes of Jay-Z, T-Pain and Robin Thicke &8212; its follow-up is expected to have guests of the same caliber. Unfortunately, waiting on the album's contributors to turn in their features has added to the delay as well. "If you calculate all of that, by the time we would've finished mixing, we wouldn't have met the [original] due date to turn in the album," said Mack. "So we had to push it back."

As far as Tha Carter IV track list that has been making its way around the Internet, Mack confirms that it isn't final. "I'm pretty sure it can't be all the way accurate, because I don't even have all the features back on some of it, and two [of the] songs haven't been done yet," he said.

Wayne's video for "If I Die Tonight" featuring Rick Ross, which leaked online Tuesday and was quickly taken down, also isn't finalized, according to Mack. The video was obtained by some email hackers but wasn't complete, as Wayne and director Collin Tilley are still going back and forth with edits. Mack estimates that fans can expect a completed version of the clip within the next two weeks.

Tha Carter IV's album cover, which also leaked earlier this week, is real, however. The reveal wasn't intentional and happened only a few hours after the Young Money camp approved the image, which features a picture of Wayne in kindergarten with tattoos on his face. "The same day it leaked out, we had just approved the cover that morning. Soon as we approved it, it leaked out within two hours," the Young Money president said.

And that's not all. While trying to remain as tight-lipped as possible, Mack did dish on Tha Carter IV's next single, which he compares to Weezy's 2008 hit "Lollipop," featuring the late Static Major. "It's more along the lines of a 'Lollipop,' " he said. "People call [them] crossover records and all of that, but [it will be] just one of those [records] that will be liked by the masses."
